Dr Juan Pérez-González (standing) discusses Raúl Castro's Cuba at the MCL Forum.

Dr Pérez-Gónzalez looked at the tentative steps taken towards reform in Cuba since Raúl Castro took over the country's leadership in 2006, before looking at how these changes are reflected in Ian Padrón's successful film, Habanastation (Cuba, 2011). The talk, which was well attended, prompted debate concerning the nature of journalism in Cuba. The MCL Forum meets several times each term, providing a forum for postgraduate students and staff members to discuss ongoing research.
