'Women and Power' panel discussion
Dr Caroline Bainbridge, Reader in Visual Culture and Director of MiW, recently took part in a panel discussion on the theme of 'Women and Power' following the performance of Friedrich Schiller's Mary Stuart at the New Diorama Theatre in London. The panel was chaired by Clare Short, MP and Dr Bainbridge will join the playwright, April De Angelis (Jumpy - Royal Court), and The Faction's Executive Producer, Kate Sawyer, who also plays Queen Elizabeth in the play, for a discussion and Q&A event for the audience that jumped off from Schiller's observation that 'A woman is a weak and fragile thing'.
She focused on the notion of envy between women from a psychoanalytic perspective, drawing on my work on the spectacle of envy and femininity in the press. The play has had excellent press reviews and is sold out for its current run but there are tickets for a second run in September.
More information for the event can be found New Diorama Theatre website.
