Dr Steven Groarke, Reader in Social Theory at the University of Roehampton and psychoanalyst of the British Psycho-Analytical Society, has recently been appointed to an international team of academics and clinicians working on a definitive scholarly edition of Donald Woods Winnicott’s (1896-1971) writings.

While he remains one of the most important psychoanalytic innovators since Freud and the single most influential figure for the group of Independent analysts in the British Society, there has not been a standard edition of Winnicott’s work available to date.

The Collected Writings will be published by Routledge in 2014, and will be produced in print and online versions in XII volumes.

“I owe a debt of gratitude to Winnicott’s thought and his humane example as a therapist that extends over thirty years or more, and would like to think of my contribution to the Collected Writings as an acknowledgement of that debt”, said Steven.

Steven, who is also the Honorary Archivist of the Winnicott Trust, will be responsible for the penultimate volume of the Collected Writings covering the years 1954 to 1967.
