Cecilia Robleda
Audiovisual Translation, Foreign Language Acquisition, Interpreting
Cecilia Robleda joins the HRC as an intern, as part of her Translation and Interpreting degree at Universitat Jaume I in Castellón, Spain. She is currently in her final year. Cecilia is also planning to obtain a degree in Linguistics and Language Acquisition, for which she is preparing a dissertation on The roles of L1 and L2 in Third Language Acquisition.
Cecilia’s interests lie equally between language teaching and translating, especially audiovisual translation. She finds ‘audiovisual translation fascinating. It represents a challenge to translators as they have to take into account both channels of communication (visual and auditory). Besides, audiovisual translation may be about any topic’.
As to future plans, she would like to be able to work in all three fields, teaching above all, combined with either interpreting or translating. Iván Sánchez
Photography and Graphic Design
Spanish photographer and graphic designer Iván Sánchez is enjoying a six-month EU-funded (Leonardo program) internship starting in January 2011 in the Hispanic Research Centre at Roehampton University. His duties in the HRC include designing the Centre’s promotional posters, producing photographic and film records of the seminars, and providing graphic support to the members of the centre. Outside the HRC, Iván is also taking part in several artistic projects in London.

Inma Pedregosa
Audiovisual Translation, Foreign Language Acquisition
Inma’s first collaboration with the HRC as a research intern finished in May 2010, when her six-month EU-funded Leonardo grant came to an end. However, she feels very much part of the team as she has been asked to collaborate with the Centre on an ad hoc basis on various projects.
Inma is a linguist and works freelance as a translator, interpreter and lecturer in Spanish and Translation. Inspired by all the activity taking place at the HRC, she is considering embarking on a PhD in the not-so-distant future.

Estefanía Pérez Jiménez
Translation and Interpreting
A graduate in Translation and Interpreting from the Universidad de Sevilla, Estefanía joined the HRC in September 2010 as an intern. During her stay at Roehampton, she is supporting the Spanish programme in various ways, including helping students with their speaking, writing, listening and grammar skills. She has also contributed to the Liason Interpreting classes, and has been given responsibility for offering students feedback on their work.
Estefanía says: ‘It's really interesting for me to see the learning process from the lecturer’s perspective. Last year I was on the students' side, which has helped me to sympathise with them. I really enjoy teaching because I also learn at the same time. It is a reciprocal process, which is very rewarding’.

Covadonga Martínez
Photography
Covadonga joined the HRC as a research assistant in September 2010. Her main interest is Photography, especially trends in Spanish photography in the 20th century, on which she published a book Tendencias fotográficas en España entre 1900 y 1940 in 2008.
Covadonga delivered a paper, ‘Memoria histórica o realidad social: la mujer española en la fotografía entre 1900 y 1940’, at the 31st Annual Conference organized by ACIS (Association for Contemporary Iberian Studies) and held at Roehampton in September 2010. In December 2010 she gave a seminar at the HRC entitled ‘Misiones pedagógicas (1931-1936): An Education Project through Photography’.
At present, Covadonga is working on the biography of Spanish photographer Lorenzo Almarza Mallaina for an exhibition to be held in Huesca, Spain, in April 2011.

Mónica Martín
Audiovisual Production
Monica’s collaboration with the HRC started in April 2010. Her activities included acting as co-ordinator, organizer (she helped to organize the ACIS conference held at Roehampton), and research assistant. Mónica was also an assistant on Spanish language and culture modules. She researched teaching resources and produced some material for the youtube channel created for Roehampton Spanish students.
An English graduate from the Universidad de Zaragoza, Mónica spent her final year at Roehampton University, and will complete an MA in Film Studies at UCL
