The gift of a scholarship or bursary can transform the life of a student who, without such financial support, might not be able to pursue higher education. At Roehampton, we want to remove any obstacles confronting an otherwise gifted student; by supporting a scholarship or bursary fund you will help to ensure this becomes a reality.
The Paul and Pilar O'Prey Scholarship
Roehampton's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Paul O'Prey, will retire on May 1st 2019 after fifteen years of dedicated service. During that time, he has presided over the establishment of Roehampton from four separate Colleges to the vibrant, inclusive university it is today.
In recognition of his considerable achievements and with the support of the University's fundraising board and our Providing Bodies, a new full fee waiver scholarship has been established to benefit a cohort of 4 students applying for a September 2020 start. The Paul and Pilar O'Prey Scholarship will be prioritised for students from groups often under-represented in Higher Education.
Why Support
By supporting this fund you will be helping to change the lives of four students at Roehampton. As the Vice-Chancellor says in his own words:
"Our hope for the Scholarship is that we will have four scholars - one per college and that these scholars will be known as people who make a positive difference to everyone else’s experience of the University.
Pilar and myself were the first in our families to go to university. Higher Education has been a hugely enriching experience for both of us. But we also know the challenges young people are facing, especially if they are from a background that is under-represented in Higher Education. At a young age, I was fortunate to see the power of someone taking an interest in my life and changing its direction. It is my hope that others will do the same, here, with this Scholarship."
Music Scholarships
Supporting a music scholarship enables an undergraduate or postgraduate student meet some of the costs of developing their talents through lessons, courses, or the purchase of relevant equipment (instruments/strings/sheet music etc.). In return, music scholars enhance the cultural life of the University through performances and enrich their colleges by being available for events chosen by College Heads.
Sports and esports
Supporting a sport scholarship will help provide both financial and mentoring support for students who excel in sports, enabling them to study their programme whilst competing at national or international standard in your chosen activity.
Our esports scholarship is part of our investment in esports at the University, with new facilities and a student society. The scholarship covers travel and entry costs for competitions, access to our on-site gym, services managed by Nuffield Health and sports massage therapy, additional training and CPD development and lifestyle and welfare support.
