Fees, costs and budgeting

On-campus accommodation fees

The annual fees for Roehampton University accommodation can be found on the various halls of residence pages.  Alternatively a summary can be viewed: Fees 2010-11 (PDF).

What is included

The fees shown for University on-campus accommodation include:

  • water, electricity and heating
  • internet connection and usage costs
  • safety testing of your personal electrical goods
  • block insurance (provided by Endsleigh Insurance)

Endsleigh Insurance provide possessions insurance for the duration of your stay within University accommodation. This covers a range of belongings within your room, including laptops, sports and electrical equipment, clothes and frozen food.

You can view the Insurance Certificate on our contracts page or visit the Endsleigh website to review your cover and familiarise yourself with what possessions are insured. Endsleigh offer the option to extend your policy to suit your individual needs and avoid being under-insured. You can insure your mobile phone, push bike, or laptop outside of your room and other options are also available.

On and off-campus cost comparison

We have prepared a cost comparison chart (PDF) to give a guideline on the likely costs for both on and off-campus (private rented sector) accommodation. This is meant only as guideline to help you budget.  It is important with private rented sector accommodation that you consider what is included in the household costs before proceeding.

Budgeting

How much you spend on living expenses will, to a large extent, depend on the kind of lifestyle you choose and where you live. You will need to budget for food and drink along with items such as books, travel, telephone, entertainment, clothes, laundry fees and other household expenses.

Television licence

If you wish to watch television you will need to purchase a television licence. In on-campus accommodation you will need to purchase an individual licence for your room.  However, with off-campus, you can purchase a licence for each household so you should be able to share the cost.

In our on-campus accommodation you can access Freewire TV via a PC using the internet. However you still require a licence for this and TV licensing do run checks on student accommodation. For further information on obtaining a licence visit the TV Licensing website.
