Crucible

About us

Crucible is a centre of excellence in education in human rights, social justice and citizenship, supported by the Higher Education Funding Council. It is one of 74 Centres of Teaching and Learning Excellence (CETLs) funded by the Higher Education Funding Council of England.

  • We work in partnership with universities, and with third sector, public sector and business organisations.
  • We develop programmes of learning and resource development in human rights, citizenship and social justice.
  • We organise placements to enhance the student experience.
  • We are housed in the Duchesne Building (pictured right), a state-of-the-art teaching and learning facility at Roehampton University.

Citizen 2020
Crucible has launched Citizen 2020, an initiative that engages employers and employees in the private, public and voluntary sectors to support active citizenship in the workplace and the community. (read more)

Cope initiative
Crucible is sponsoring an initiative to promote emotional wellbeing and empowerment in schools through creative expression We are looking for students of all disciplines to help out, but in particular, we are hoping to recruit from the following areas: Education, Creative Writing, and Computing. Prison Reading Groups
Two of Roehampton's lecturers have started a number of prison reading groups. Their aims are to promote the spread of reading groups in prisons and to support those who run them. For more information see the Prison Reading Groups webpages.
