Roehampton University
Open Spaces. Open Minds.
One aim of Crucible is to extend an innovative human rights and social justice curriculum across all undergraduate programmes at Roehampton. We work with staff and students across the University to develop courses that can be adopted by each undergraduate programme.
At undergraduate level, the Questioning Citizenship module is being taken by almost half the first-year intake students at Roehampton. The teaching is supported by the Crucible Learning Resources Centre together with a variety of civil society and cultural organisations.
The Centre is working with all programmes at Roehampton to provide support and advice on how to follow up this work at foundation level with more advanced courses in human rights and social justice.
At masters level we are concentrating on developing programmes that are both international and practical in nature. A new international masters in human rights practice started in 2007/08, with Erasmus Mundus funding. Our partners are the Universities of Tromsø in Norway and Goteborg in Sweden.
The key to successful delivery of these curriculum initiatives lies in the development of rich learning resources, and working with other universities to share. These resources will be produced and housed locally using Crucible staff and staff from civil society organisations.
