The University has a range of policies which further expand on the enabling strategies. Please review our key policies below along with progress in key areas of environmental sustainability.

University of Roehampton commitment to continuous improvement within environmental sustainability

Alongside the initiatives outlined below the University have procured the services of LCMB to support the review and updating of all environmental sustainability policies, plans and provide a 3 year plan to allow the University to continuously develop better practices and implement further green initiatives.

Environmental Policy

The University recognises its duty to protect the environment and the biodiversity of our beautiful campus. We are therefore committed to the responsible management of all environmental aspects of our business and aim to embed sustainability across all of our activities and operations.

Sustainable Procurement Policy

The University acknowledges that procurement decisions carry environmental, social and economic implications and recognises its responsibility to procure goods and services in a responsible manner.

Apleona - establishing sustainable practices and initiatives

The University works with experienced facilities management company Apleona, who operate cleaning, pest control, window cleaning, feminine hygiene and hotel and conferencing services within an environmentally friendly ethos.

The following presentation highlights the initiatives Apleona have introduced and areas they would like to improve.

Environmental Management System

The University of Roehampton implemented a complete environmental management system up to 2017 which included procedures for the management of:

  • Storage, collection and disposal of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE)
  • Hazardous waste
  • The management of fluorinated gases and ozone depleting substances
  • Non-hazardous waste
  • Grounds and biodiversity
  • Transport
  • Energy

We are looking to re-establishing a revised environmental management system with the support of specialist consultants LCMB.  The first phase of the system will be delivered in the coming months.

The University investment strategy and policy ensures that no money is invested in the following industries.

  • Arms
  • Tobacco
  • Alcohol
  • Gambling
  • Fossil Fuel
