Human and Life Sciences

Students working in the Lab

The School of Human and Life Sciences offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across the fields of biological and health sciences, arts and play therapies, psychology, psychotherapy, counselling and counselling psychology and sport sciences.

This diverse portfolio of programmes paves the way for an amazing range of skills and career prospects.

They are complemented by a number of professional doctorates and MPhil/PhD research degrees, where all research students become members of specialist research centres and clusters, joining a vibrant research culture.

The School works in partnership with a wide range of private, public and voluntary sector organisations, providing contract research, training and consultancy. We advise organizations on psychological assessment, and clinical and managerial supervision and our sports consultancy service provides assessment, training advice and treatment for elite athletes. We also specialise in providing Continuing Professional Development for professionals in the psychological and arts therapies and in health and social care.

With over 100 academic staff, we provide a wealth of experience and expertise which supports the interdisciplinary aspirations of the School. It has also enabled us to develop a rigorous research base, allowing good practice and effective scientific models to be established. All research we undertake feeds back into teaching, ensuring the delivery of cutting edge content.

Based at Whitelands College which opened in January 2005, we offer state-of-the-art lecture spaces, seminar rooms, laboratories and social facilities.
