Investors in People [IIP] is a national standard which sets a level of good practice for improving an organisation's performance through its people, particularly in the area of staff development. For more information on the standard go to the:
Roehampton remains committed to the principles underlying IIP and gained University recognition in June 2004. The assessment report highlights some of the positive feedback we received as well as some development areas for the future and can be found on this web page.
In June 2007 the University was again recognised as an ‘Investor in People’.
Having first gained University-wide Investors in People (IIP) accreditation three years ago, the status was reaffirmed after a recent reassessment.
Vice-Chancellor Paul O’Prey said he was pleased to have maintained recognition using, for the first time, an Internal Review Team who worked in conjunction with the external assessor.
“We are the first university in the country to have achieved this. Using the internal team added real value to the IIP process as not only did we meet the IIP standard, and exceed it in some areas, but we could also take the opportunity to assess our staff experience of the values and vision in the University Strategy,” Paul O’Prey, Vice-Chancellor.
“We have exceeded the standard in terms of strategy development and social responsibility, fairness and wellbeing, and it was also found that, in general, people’s contributions were recognised and valued by managers.” Paul O’Prey, Vice-Chancellor.
Internal Review [IR] is one of a number of continuous improvement options available at the moment for recognised Investors in People organisations. We have introduced this at Roehampton because as a recognised organisation we want more involvement and ownership of our post recognition reviews and wish to embed and enhance the performance benefits that Investors in People status brings and further encourage continuous improvement.
We have trained a number of employees within the organisation to the approved national standard to enable them to conduct internal assessments. The Internal Review Team [IRT] act as consultants around the University to ensure continuous improvement and share best practice and also to undertake internal assessments of specific areas and themes. This information is then used to feed into the next post recognition review - thus cutting down on the amount of time the external assessor will need to spend on site. Our next review will take place December 2006/January 2007. The programme of informal reviews can be found on the HR web pages.
