Roehampton’s MA Education programmes form part of our taught postgraduate scheme and offer opportunities for study leading towards a range of certificates and diplomas as well as the full award of MA. The programmes are designed to offer professionals the opportunity to engage in the process of systematic and analytical enquiry into the theories and practices of education, with a view to developing and improving their own practice.

Teachers with QTS and who are resident in England are eligible to apply to Roehampton for funding to undertake their masters-level study. Funding recently made available by the Training and Development Agency may support up to two-thirds of the cost of tuition fees for students who commit to 60 credits of masters-level study during an academic year.
The MA Education programme has been designed to provide a range of flexible opportunities for practising professionals working in education. The programme is highly flexible with teaching taking place in evenings and at weekends to fit in with students' employment schedules.
The MA Education is underpinned by a model of critically reflective practice and is designed to offer professionals the opportunity to engage, actively, in the processes of systematic and analytical enquiry into the theories and practices of education, with a view to developing and improving their own practice. The programme allows students either to specialise in a particular area of interest or design for themselves a wide programme of study to reflect on the varied but linked aspects of education in today’s and tomorrow’s world.
The following modules are required for the MA Education:
Three optional credit modules can be chosen from the pathways indicated above. In addition, three other modules are available: Independent Study, APEL and the Context of Professional Practice. The term Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) describes the process of giving formal recognition to learning that derives from personal experiences gained, for the most part, in employment situations.

The MA Education programme is delivered through seminars, workshops, tutorials and lectures, and is assessed through essays and case studies.
The MA Education is increasingly seen not only as a form of academic enhancement, but as a means to facilitate career progress. It is excellent preparation for MPhil/PhD study.

Applicants not meeting the normal entry requirements may be required to take a qualifying assignment, and/or present a portfolio of documentary evidence of intellectual and professional development resulting from prior experiential learning.
For non-native speakers the English requirement is IELTS 6.5 overall with no less than 6 in any of the bands.
