Sessions are taught in a dedicated teaching space, which houses a collection of children’s books, academic journals and relevant theoretical reading.
The University is home to the award-winning National Centre for Research in Children's Literature.
Roehampton also offers an MA Applied Linguistics and TESOL.
All applicants should have a good second-class honours degree (or above) in a related subject and must have Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
For students studying part-time, attendance will be two hours per module per week (most likely Wednesday evening in 2008/09). Teaching will be seminar-based including tutor and student presentations. Students also have the option of following self-guided study modules.
Teachers with QTS and who are resident in England are eligible to apply to Roehampton for funding to undertake their masters-level study. Funding recently made available by the Training and Development Agency may support up to 60 per cent of the cost of tuition fees for students who commit to 60 credits of masters-level study during an academic year. For further information please contact Elaine Hilides (email: e.hilides@roehampton.ac.uk, tel: 020 8392 3382).
If you are eligible for this TDA funding, you will need to take 60 credits in one calendar year, choosing from the optional modules and research methods in discussion with your course tutor.
"The quality of the teaching was outstanding. I couldn’t have wished for more knowledgeable, interesting and funny people to teach me."
"The module showed me how much more I can do as an English teacher."
"The module has helped me understand how children engage with language at different levels and how all these levels contribute to children’s cognitive development and their social interactions. It has been very useful to my professional development as I can apply this knowledge to children."
