The MA Special and Inclusive Education programme has been designed to provide a range of flexible opportunities for practising professionals working in education, and in, related professions, to engage in rigorous, in-depth study with a view to widening and deepening their theoretical perspectives and critically reflecting on the implications for their practice. The programme is underpinned by a model of critically reflective practice and is designed to offer professionals the opportunity to engage, actively, in the processes of systematic and analytical enquiry into the theories and practices of special and inclusive education, with a view to developing and improving their own practice in the field of SEN.
The programme allows students either to specialise in a particular area of interest or design for themselves a wide programme of study to reflect on the varied but linked aspects of SEN and Inclusion in today's and tomorrow's world.
Optional credit courses can be chosen relating to SEN and Inclusion. Students may pursue Certificates and/or Diplomas in Special and Inclusive Education They may opt to choose modules with a Knowledge and Skills based focus or a Leading and Managing Special and Inclusive Education focus.
Teachers with QTS and who are resident in England are eligible to apply to Roehampton for funding to undertake their masters-level study. Participants will then have the option to proceed either to one of the MA awards in the School of Education or to any one of the interim awards such as a Postgraduate Diploma, for which similar funding is available.
These awards cover a diverse range of areas such as Education Leadership and Management, Special and Inclusive Education, and Theory and Practice of Mentoring as well as individual curriculum areas such as ICT and Multimedia, Physical Education and Religious Education.
