The Centre for Language Assessment Research (CLARe) is an internationally recognised research centre which offers scholars, examining boards and government organisations both domestic and foreign a centre in Britain that can provide and assist in quality research and development in the area of language assessment and indeed in assessment in general.
The current staff members of CLARe include Professor Barry O’Sullivan, Ms Carole Sedgewick and Miss Liz Doull.

PhD supervision in a broad range of subjects within the fields of language testing and assessment
Attachment programme in language testing and/or assessment and/or evaluation designed for the ELT researcher or practitioner who requires an individualised programme. It is especially appropriate for research students and academics on sabbatical leave. Attachments may last from three weeks to one year.
Examples of short courses offered - forthcoming
Members of CLARe undertake consultancies in all aspects of language testing and evaluation throughout the world. Clients include or have included DfID, (formerly ODA), NATO, British Council, the BBC, Examination Boards such as City & Guilds and Cambridge ESOL, as well as Ministries of Education in many countries.

We have worked on projects in China, Denmark, Estonia, Holland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Mexico, Norway, Oman, Rwanda, Sweden, Taiwan, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates.
From our involvement in many projects around the world over the last 25 years, extensive collections of seminal articles in the fields of reading, listening, speaking, writing and general proficiency have been established. These materials are in addition to the well-stocked facilities of the Centre's library that holds an up-to-date collection of language testing books, reports, MA theses in the field as well as important PhD theses.
