Centre for Research in Postcolonial and Transcultural Studies (CRPTS)

About us

The Centre for Research in Postcolonial and Transcultural Studies is based in the School of Arts, Roehampton University, London. The Centre promotes interdisciplinary research that is methodologically informed by postcolonial theories and enquiry.

The Centre is typically, though not exclusively, concerned with some of the following questions and issues:

  • Relations (past and present) between former metropolitan centres and colonies
  • The inscription of power relationships within various forms of social, cultural and political practices and the discourses that seek to account for them
  • The inflections of race, class, gender, sexuality, ethnicity and nationality upon such discursive formations and practices
  • Spatial and temporal determinates within colonial, postcolonial and trans-cultural practices and discourses
  • International relations and models of historical contact

The distinctiveness of the Centre lies in the particular mix of expertise amongst its University-wide membership.
