Sport Roehampton

Student sport

All student sports members at Roehampton University are part of Sport Roehampton's Athletic Union, which has a vision of increased participation and better provision accessible to all, and aims to achieve this vision with ongoing development.

Sport Roehampton provides many benefits for students, from team organisation, health and wellbeing activities to vocational experience, skill acquisition, job opportunities, elite performance support services and a chance to meet a wide variety of people.

The best way to sign up for Sport Roehampton membership is at the Fresher's Fair in Fresher's week. You can choose the sports you are interested in, pay membership or simply ask questions. Club captains will be on hand to let you have details of each sport. In addition to signing up at Fresher's Fair, this can also be done in the Students Union, ROEactive gym or Sport and Wellbeing offices at any time throughout the year.

We currently run a wide range of sports teams and clubs and offer the opportunity and support to accommodate new sports clubs and all individual sports. If you want to start something new or bring your sport to Roehampton then just contact the Student Sport Development Officer (contacts below). Our student sports programme currently includes the following sports:

Athletics - Badminton - Basketball - Cheerleading - Fencing - Football - Gymnastics - Hockey - Karate - Kick Boxing - Netball - Rowing - Rugby - Squash - Swimming - Table-Tennis - Taekwondo - Tennis - Triathlon -Ultimate Frisbee - Volleyball.

Most of our sports teams are entered in National BUCS (British University and College Sport) competitions and compete on Wednesday afternoons in the 1st and 2nd terms. We also enter some recreational teams into regional competitions and we are involved in a number of national projects. For example, we are working with BUCS to promote student sport via social networking, have been elected as one of 10 universities to be a football development university and we are a High Performance centre for British Fencing.

We hold several A.U social and fundraising events throughout the year which is the perfect chance for teams to mix and usually provide a great night out. There are also several infamous sporting events such as Frigby, Frugby and the charitable Roehampton 10k Fun Run. One of the biggest events of the year is the A.U Awards dinner, where we reward and appreciate the people who have really made a difference to our time in sport at Roehampton.
