Dr Lopez is Reader in Visual Culture and contributes to the Dance Studies Programme of the School of Arts. Earlier she was also involved with the Art History programme. She is a graduate of the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, where she also obtained her PhD in Art and Archaeology, with a thesis on dance iconography. Recipient of several international research awards and research fellowships, she has to her credit numerous publications.

Postgraduate research applications

Dr Lopez has supervised doctoral dissertations to completion. Postgraduate research applications and/or informal enquiries from suitably qualified candidates for MPhil and/or PhD registration are welcome in the following areas:
visuality and performativity of dance especially Asian dance performance, broadly conceived, embracing areas such as media, and blurring the boundaries between the concepts and the practices of fine and performing arts; issues of dance and performance heritage and its construction, mediatization and representation;dance and performance documentation; the interface of visual arts and dance making; dance performance and body art; photography and performance, especially dance; the interface of dance and architecture; dance performance and twentieth century fashion.
