Miguel Á. Bernal Merino is one of the very few academics who has started raising awareness about the issues involved in the localisation of multimedia interactive entertainment software (a.k.a. video games), and the necessity of doing research into the topic from a multidisciplinary point of view in order to improve overall quality and turnover. He has been a teacher for more than ten years, and has also worked as a translator/interpreter.
His expertise lies in the translation of polysemiotic texts which include multimedia and audiovisual products (films, video games, comic books, children's literature). He has several publications on audiovisual translation and game localisation, and has formally introduced game localisation within the translation studies programme at Roehampton University London.
Miguel has been collaborating with 'Localization World' by organising and moderating the 'Game Localisation Round Table' series both in Europe and the USA.

He is a registered member of the IGDA (International Game Developers Association) and a co-founder of the Game Localization SIG (Special Interest Group). Together with the SIG steering Committee, Miguel organised the Game Localization Summit within GDC(Game Developers Conference).

Miguel Á. Bernal Merino is a lecturer in translation and Spanish. He also manages the Languages Centre (Queens Building groung floor) and is the Languages for All (LFA) programme convener.
Miguel Á. Bernal Merino lectures in Spanish in the BA programme, and audiovisual translation in both the BA and the MA programmes.
