About

I have been an English lecturer at Roehampton for over 20 years. My teaching interests are mainly in Nineteenth-century American literature, Twentieth-century literature of the American South, and the short story.

I am co-ordinator of the EML School recruitment team and am keen to encourage widening access to higher education.

James Smythe shortlisted for the prestigious Arthur C. Clarke Award

Senior Lecturer in creative writing and fiction, Dr James Smythe has been shortlisted for the prestigious Arthur C. Clarke Award, given for the best science fiction novel first published in the UK.
