My main academic interests are in 18c and 19c fiction: the Historical
Novel (Scott and Cooper) and romantic nationalism in Europe; Charles
Dickens; representations of the city in English, American and European
writing in relation to sexuality and ethnic identity; Dryden in relation
to baroque art and architecture.
I have taught and lectured at universities in Albania,Bulgaria,
Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, Poland, Romania,
Sweden, and the United States.
I have published essays on Dryden,Scott, Dickens, Cooper and a number of other European novelists of the nineteenth century.
