About

I am a New Zealand born performance maker and dancer with a broad practice founded on choreographic traditions. I have a practice-led PhD (investigating improvisation, remembering, documentation and liveness) and develop both academic and professional work. This has included choreographies for various contexts: site-focused, screendance, installation, webart, and black box.

In 2008, my solo performance Gertrud was a finalist in the Place Prize, and in 2009 the film Anamnesis (developed with David Corbet, Cormac Lally and Bagryana Popov) was awarded School Jury Prize for Best Film at the InShadow Festival in Lisbon. My performance project Desire Lines was presented as part of Place Prize 2010, and I currently working with Colin Poole on a project called Colin, Simon & I, and am practicing the Deborah Hay solo I think not.

Research Interests

My research interests include practice as research, improvisation, choreography, Bergson's duration/memory, dramaturgy, collaboration and screendance/mediated performance.

Teaching Interests

I teach choreography, practice-as-research and dance and mediated 'event spaces', and supervise on the BA, MA/MFA and PhD programmes. I also am programme leader (convenor) for the MRes Choreography and Performance.
