PROJECT OUTLINE

The ecology and natural history of the golden-backed uakari, Cacajao melanocephalus.

I am carrying out the first extended field study of the golden-backed uacari (Cacajao melanocephalus ouakary), hard fruit-eating specialists of Amazonian swamp forests. My project aims to obtain quantified information on uacari diet and seasonal variation in resource abundance. I am also investigating seasonal habitat use and applying the results of this work to theories of diet, ranging and social organization. This information will provide important new insights into the biology of these elusive and enigmatic animals.
