Our programme will prepare you to teach all aspects of history in the National Curriculum and for GCSE and AS/A2 level.
You will be encouraged to develop your understanding of the subject as it is taught in schools and your awareness of various resources to aid the classroom-based work. The programme will also draw on a wide range of other support systems including museums and the use of ICT in history.
The programme involves a variety of teaching and learning methods including simulations, role-play, individual tutorials and group sessions. You are encouraged to share your own expertise in the subject area and your experiences in school. The programme sets out to give you a sense of the place of history in a multi-cultural society and to equip you to teach across the age and ability range. You will also acquire an understanding of the debates surrounding history teaching and the place of history in the whole school curriculum including history’s contribution to literacy and citizenship.
Applicants should have an approved degree in history or in a related subject which has a large percentage of history content. Early application is advisable.
