Study with us
MA and MPhil/PhD study are both on offer at NCRCL. The centre is internationally acclaimed for its work in the field of children’s literature and as such offers students the opportunity to work with researchers at the forefront of their discipline in an environment where original research is flourishing.
MA – On-site and Distance Learning
‘This degree remains the benchmark for the subject, nationally and internationally; it is the most robust of the UK HE courses’, Professor Peter Hunt.
Our MA programmes offer a dynamic and flexible environment for the study of children's literature, from visual texts to young adult fiction, from literary theory to creative writing. Students can learn on-site or at a distance, and all have access to excellent teachers, high-quality resources, and a thriving academic environment. They also have the chance to work with our professorial and honorary fellows, Dame Jacqueline Wilson and Melvin Burgess.

PhD supervision at NCRCL
The NCRCL currently has a vibrant cohort of doctoral students engaged on a wide range of research projects. As we have such a large number of students, we are able to provide a lively environment for research with frequent conferences and other activities.
All NCRCL PhD students are invited to an annual PhD event, at which they are asked to give a short paper on some aspect of their research. PhD studies at Roehampton are conducted by research, with all doctoral students having at least two supervisors with appropriate areas of expertise. The relaxed and friendly environment in the Centre means that there are regular opportunities for discussion with all those who work in and visit the Centre.
Specific queries about research projects can be directed to Dr Lisa Sainsbury.
