Summer Maths Continuing Professional Development Sessions
The School of Education are running a series of Maths CPD workshops this Summer for primary school teachers and maths coordinators who wish to update their mathematical subject knowledge and/or enhance their range of rich mathematical activities.
Key concepts, structures and patterns essential to developing a deep understanding of place value will be explored. An underlying theme to this course will be consideration of what it means to be mathematical and the importance of enabling pupils to spot patterns and to make connections in their learning.
Arithmetic structures, relationships and patterns essential to developing a deep understanding and flexibility with number and early algebra will be explored, and we will consider creative approaches to enabling pupils to develop mastery of number through rich tasks and contexts.
This course will explore how multiplication and division concepts can be combined to develop a deep and flexible understanding of multiplicative reasoning. We will consider creative approaches to enabling pupils to progress through the use of the array and progressive division strings.
This course will allow participants to develop a deep understanding of the key concepts underlying fractions as a result of decades of research in the US and UK. We will explore how to embed these evidence-informed concepts in everyday classrooms with the use of a range of practical activities.
Courses start at 1.30pm and finish at 4.30pm. Pattern and Algebra runs from 9.00am -3.30pm.
