Our Pre-sessional English course will enhance your English language and study skills, so you can succesfully progress in higher education in the UK.
The course is either 5, 10 or 15 weeks and takes place on our beautiful green campus in southwest London.
On the course, you will:
- Be taught by highly qualified lectures in English for academic purposes
- Have weekly tutorials to work on your specific needs in writing
- Be taught in small classes, 24 hours per week
- Be provided with the books and materials you need
- Have access to our social programme
You'll learn through:
- Essays: using reading in your writing, organisation, critical and analytical skills
- Academic vocabulary and grammar development
- Seminars: presentation and discussion based on your reading
- Lectures: understanding the argument, note-taking and taking an active role
- Listening and reading: understanding key ideas in an academic context
You will need IELTS UKVI, we can’t accept IELTS indicator for this course.

If you have already applied for one of our undergraduate or postgraduate courses, you do not have to complete another application form for the Pre-sessional English course.
You will need to email our international admissions team and let them know you want to be condsidered for the course.
Our admissions team will then assess your eligibility for the course and issue you with a formal offer.

China In-Country Pre-sessional English Courses
OI Digital Institute (Oxford International Education) delivers pre-sessional English courses in four cities across China.
This course is exclusively recognised by The University of Roehampton.
Once you have completed the course, you will be able to progress to undergraduate study with us, in your chosen degree.
On the course, you will:
- Have 20 hours of live face-to-face classes per week
- Build your English language and academic skills
- Study and collaborate on campus with fellow students
- Progress to study at the University of Roehampton
You can choose to study in any centre, in one of these cities:

- Writing: You will write opinion essays on a variety of topics and develop writing process strategies to produce coherent texts
- Reading: You will demonstrate a thorough reading comprehension using a variety of reading subskills and the ability to think critically when responding to a variety of texts
- Speaking: You will express yourself effectively and improve your presentation skills
- Listening: You will have a greater understanding of vocabulary and to be able to actively following listening input and take notes
- Digital Literacy: You will know how to navigate digital tools such as a VLE and communicate with peers and teachers online
- Mediation: You will gain the ability to work collaboratively with peers, critically evaluate work and engage actively in academic settings
