On-campus Pre-sessional English Courses
Our 5, 10 and 15 week on-campus pre-sessional English courses are designed to help you to get the most from your studies at Roehampton.
The pre-sessional course will help you to:
- develop your academic English so that you can cope better with university-level study
- develop your study skills and understand what is expected of you as a student in the UK higher education system
Where will I study?
You will be studying on our main Roehampton campus in London.
What will I study?
- Essays: using reading in your writing, organization, critical and analytical skills
- Academic vocabulary and grammar development
- Seminars: presentation and discussion based on your reading
- Lectures: understanding the argument, note-taking, taking an active role
- Listening and reading: understanding key ideas in an academic context
When is it, how much does it cost, and what level of English do I need? (Note: IELTS UKVI is required, we can’t accepts IELTS indicator for On-campus PSE)

Alternative proof of English language for On-Campus Pre-sessional Courses
For entering our on-campus pre-sessional English students are required to provide a Secure English Language Test (SELT). Apart from IELTS we are able to accept Pearson and LanguageCert Tests.

What is included?

How do I apply for the course?
If you have already applied for an undergraduate or postgraduate programme you do not have to complete another application form for the Pre-Sessional English programme. Please simply email our international admissions team and inform us that you wish to be considered for the pre-sessional English programme. Admissions will then assess your eligibility for the programme and issue you with a formal offer.
How do I pay for the Pre-sessional course?

Accommodation during on-campus pre-sessional
You will be able to stay in our on-campus accommodation whilst you are studying our on-campus pre-sessional programme. For detailed information of our accommodation offering please visit our accommodation page. China In-Country
Pre-sessional English Courses (OI Digital Institute)
OI Digital Institute (Oxford International Education) delivers pre-sessional English programmes in four cities across China. This programme is exclusively recognized by The University of Roehampton. Upon successful completion of this programme, students will be able to progress to the university and study their degree courses.

What will I study?
- Writing: Write opinion essays on a variety of topics and develop writing process strategies to produce coherent texts.
- Reading: Demonstrate a thorough reading comprehension using a variety of reading subskills and the ability to think critically when responding to a variety of texts.
- Speaking: Express oneself effectively and improve presentation skills.
- Listening: Have a greater understanding of vocabulary and to be able to actively following listening input and take notes.
- Digital Literacy: Know how to navigate digital tools such as a VLE and communicate with peers and teachers online.
- Mediation: Gain the ability to work collaboratively with peers, evaluate one’s work critically and engage actively in academic settings.
