External engagement

We consolidate our focus on health in the community and an integrated health and social care offer through collaborative work, partnerships, and formal Knowledge Transfer Partnerships with industry, private companies and the community, and through various forms of public engagement.

Adele  Costabile’s collaborative partnership with Optibiotix has investigated the anti-obesity effects of  SlimBiome - a pre-biotic that fosters the growth of well-known beneficial microbes such as Bifidobacteria and Lactobacilli.

We also work with sports organisations and individuals to support their performance and wellbeing. Andrew Greene works with Crystal Palace Football Club providing biomechanics support for female footballers, implementing targeted neuro-muscular injury reduction programs and monitoring player workloads

Yolanda Calle and Maria Teresa  Esposito have also received funds to identify new therapeutic approaches for the treatment of Acute Myeloid Leukaemia and Mixed-Lineage Leukaemia from Leuka and the British Society for Haematology.

We continue to actively seek industry collaborations with organisations that align with our social impact mission to develop commercial products that support healthy living. If you are interested in collaborating with us, please visit our dedicated Collaborate webpage for more details.

We engage the public in our research through bespoke local and wider international events aimed at fostering two-way discussions. We host biennial public research days to share details of our Health Science research at Roehampton with the wider community.

We host Brain Awareness Week events annually as part of the global initiative, and we regularly contribute to the Being Human national festival, in addition to initiatives such as the Whitelands College Science Festival for local schools. Our researchers also take part in external science events for public audiences including New Scientist Live, and since 2018, our researchers have contributed to Pint of Science, a series of annual international public talks in local pubs. Staff also run Nutrition Science Events for local schools, including Sacred Heart Primary School Roehampton, and we also contribute annually to schools outreach and public science talks at the Wimbledon Bookfest.
