Department of Media, Culture and Language

Study on the doorstep of London’s many exciting clusters of media industries, film festivals, art museums, press and online media headquarters.

Study with us and you’ll have the opportunity to showcase your work in London, and get the skills you need to start career in the creative industries. Our students have screened their films at Hammersmith’s Riverside Studios, exhibited their photography in Brick Lane, and worked at leading media organisations, including the BBC.

We’re committed to the promotion of, and research in, language teaching and learning. We offer Language support to the University’s international student community and to the local community.


The department helps you get where you want to be with a wide range of communication and creative disciplines in Languages, Linguistics, Media, Film and Photography.

You will have access to approachable academic staff and state-of-the-art film, photography and language equipment to help you excel in your studies.

Our strong links with employers have led to internships and work placements opportunities. Plus, our extensive calendar of events includes media masterclasses with industry professionals, such as comedian Omid Djalili and producer of Woody Allen’s Vicky Cristina Barcelona, Gareth Wiley.

Our staff are involved in the production of innovative works of national and international standing, including ground-breaking PGT provision in Audiovisual Translation and world leading research in Language Testing.
