Department of Media, Culture and Language

Our career-focused degrees are designed to give you the best start in the creative and media industries. You will meet inspiring academics and leading professional experts that will enable you to develop the skills for a successful career in the creative industries. You will have the opportunity to test your creativity and showcase your work in a variety of settings. Roehampton students have screened their films at Hammersmith's Riverside Studios and the BFI; exhibited their photography in Brick Lane and pitched their magazine ideas to prominent publishing companies.

We attract individuals who are creative, passionate, open to different cultures and interested in emerging trends in the media and the world. We run an established work placement module with links to leading media and cultural organisations in the public and private sector.


The department helps you get where you want to be with a wide range of communication and creative disciplines in Languages, Linguistics, Media, Film and Photography.

You will have access to approachable academic staff and state-of-the-art film, photography and language equipment to help you excel in your studies.

Our strong links with employers have led to internships and work placements opportunities. Plus, our extensive calendar of events includes media masterclasses with industry professionals, such as comedian Omid Djalili and producer of Woody Allen’s Vicky Cristina Barcelona, Gareth Wiley.
