Welcome to the Department of Media, Culture and Language

We would like to warmly welcome you to your academic home at Roehampton, in the Department of Media, Culture and Language.

There will be plenty of opportunities for you to get involved with the Department, whether that's through our extensive calendar of events, workshops or our language or student led societies. I hope you will make the most of all the activities we have available to you at Roehampton.

During your time here you'll be taught by staff who are incredibly passionate about their subject, and we'll do all we can to support you through your studies and help you develop your skills and experiences both in and outside of the classroom. Our staff are innovators of research and involved in the production of works of national and international standing.

This year we've seen our students screen the films they have made at BFI Southbank, exhibit their photography work at Free Range in Brick Lane, and impress a 'dragon's den' style industry panel with their pitches for magazines. Our Language students had the opportunity to localise video games and participate in international competitions, as well as visiting the English National Opera House to discover how surtitles are created.

We hope you enjoy your time at Roehampton and exploring the many exciting clusters of media industries, film festivals, art museums, press and online media headquarters that are located in the capital.

We look forward to seeing you on campus very soon.

Best wishes,
Lourdes Melcion.
