Welcome to the Extended Degree Programme

from Lucy Atkinson, Head of Extended Degree Programme

Lucy Atkinson portrait.jpg

Congratulations on securing your place to study at the University of Roehampton on the Extended Degree Programme. We are delighted that you are joining us and are looking forward to welcoming you as you embark on your university career.

The Extended Degree Programme provides the best possible preparation for your degree-level study at the University of Roehampton. Our extended degrees are four-year programmes which provide an additional 'foundation' year at the beginning of the degree, that will give you academic and practical experience, as well as the skills you need to ensure you are equipped to successfully complete your chosen degree. The first year of your programme will:

  • Give you the subject-based knowledge and skills that are required to complete your undergraduate career
  • Help you experience different ways to learn and understand how you are assessed
  • Build your confidence and help you get to know your personal strengths and where you can improve
  • Develop your ability to adapt your knowledge and skills to new situations and to be able to overcome challenges
  • Provide you with a good grounding in the subject that you will be focussed on for the remaining three yours of your degree

Once you have successfully completed this initial year, you will move onto the main degree programme you are studying. Throughout all your studies, you will be supported in a friendly and inclusive community, where you will have the chance to develop your interests outside of your subject of study. We will offer you the opportunity to develop new skills and are committed to ensuring students achieve the very best they can. We do this by offering a range of innovative teaching and learning opportunities that stretch students, and by providing all students with an academic guidance tutor. Whatever your interests and ambitions are, we are here to help you make the best of your studies and give you a rewarding university experience.

I wish you every success and look forward to meeting you during our two-week Welcome and Orientation Week.
