The Centre for Equality, Justice and Social Change is committed to understanding pressing issues of contemporary societies and how research can help make progressive change in the quest for social justice. Drawing on a multidisciplinary team of sociologists, criminologists, social anthropologists and socio-legal scholars, we conduct high-quality research to address pressing issues on a range of subjects, including on gender and sexuality, crime and violence, education and citizenship, and migration and human rights.
We actively seek to develop and engage networks of collaborators who align with our mission, to shape our research and its policy and practice implications. We are committed to making positive change in our local, regional and national context, and work with a range of organisations to do this. Our research has been funded from many sources, including the AHRC, the Arts Council, Bosch Stiftung, British Academy, The Leverhulme Trust, Nuffield Foundation, Volkswagen Stiftung and UNICEF, among others.
