Philosophy of education has a long history at Roehampton. Froebel College was the venue for many of the early meetings of the Philosophy of Education Society Great Britain (PESGB), and the connection between the Centre and PESGB remains strong today, with Roehampton staff members being very active in the Society and the Centre hosting a branch of the Society.
The Centre aims to bring philosophical analysis to bear on questions of educational theory, policy and practice. Members of the centre engage in scholarly work covering a wide range of current matters, from educational justice and inclusion, to questions of friendship, loyalty and patriotism, to research on citizenship education, leadership and management, and the importance of sports for learners’ well-being.
The Centre hosts a range of activities, including seminars, colloquia and study days open to the public.
