Philosophy of education has a long history at Roehampton. Froebel College was the venue for many of the early meetings of the Philosophy of Education Society Great Britain (PESGB), and the connection between the two remains strong today, with Roehampton staff very active in the Society. For over ten years Roehampton has run a highly successful postgraduate summer school, attracting students from around the world, and more recently an undergraduate summer school for students from across the country.   The Centre was formally known as the Centre for Beliefs, Rights and Values in Education (BRaVE).
The Centre has one of the largest teams of philosophers of education in the UK; their research interests include contemporary liberal political philosophy and its application to education and public policy; pragmatist philosophy of education, with a particular interest in semiotics; philosophy of friendship and civic loyalty; and ethics and education particularly in relation to higher education.
The Centre welcomes applications from prospective PhD or MPhil students. We also welcome enquiries from visiting scholars. Please contact Suzy Harris at s.harris@roehampton.ac.uk

Every summer the centre organises the Philosophy of Education Society Great Britain (PESGB) Summer School, a week-long event for students of philosophy of education focused on a specific theme and led by specialist invited tutors.

Details of the 2015 Summer School will be available here in early 2015. Watch the Summer School video here.
