  • Welcome to the School of Education

The School has a long-established international reputation for high-quality teaching and research, and it is positioned as one of the principal providers of Initial Teacher Training (ITT) nationally. Our mission is to develop and apply world-class research, practitioner skills and knowledge to improve outcomes and achievements for all children and young people, both at home and abroad.

The breadth and depth of our academic portfolio sets Roehampton apart. Our courses in Early Childhood and Education Studies prepare students for roles in many educational settings - including education management, education policy and education support services - and for entry to teacher training and other forms of postgraduate study.  Our wide range of national and international masters programmes offer study in many areas of education, with practice and leadership focused pathways for teachers and other practitioners, which may lead onto PhD and EdD courses. And our PE and Sports coaching qualifications prepare students for coaching, mentoring, teaching and development roles as well as opportunities for further study.

We are one of the largest providers of Initial Teacher Training courses in London and the South East, meaning we can offer our trainee teachers a large and vibrant ‘community of practice’, with staff and trainees working with partners in over 1000 schools, colleges and education settings to improve education provision. We believe Roehampton-trained teachers are some of the best in their profession, and we know our current PGCE, School Direct and BA Primary trainees are just as ambitious. 97 per cent of our  Secondary NQTs and 95 per cent of our Primary NQTs rated their overall training at Roehampton as ‘good’ or ‘very good’, compared to a national average of 89 per cent across the sector. The partnership offers a challenging, supportive and positive learning environment, and as a result the trainee experience is exceptional - as are the career prospects for our graduates, with over 90 per cent gaining employment.

Underpinning the high quality of education at Roehampton, our rigorous and internationally recognised research creates impact in our partnership schools, early years and other educational settings.

We look forward to welcoming you to our School.

    Professor Michael Day
    Director, School of Education
