The Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) is the principal regulator of higher education institutions (HEI's) as charities. This page complies with Annex E of HEFCE's Memorandum of Assurance and Accountability 2014/12 requiring HEI's that are exempt charities to publish information about their charitable status.
*The University commenced use of the trading name the University of Roehampton in 2011 but its legal name remains Roehampton University.
Under The Exempt Charities Order 2004 (No.1995), Roehampton University (hereafter the "University”) was declared an exempt charity for the purposes of the Charities Act 1993, with effect from 31 July 2004.
The University was incorporated as a private company limited by guarantee on 23 June 2004. It is registered in England under company number 5161359 and its registered office is Grove House, Roehampton Lane, London SW15 5PJ.
The University's constitutional documents, the Memorandum of Association and the Articles of Association, were approved by the Privy Council when the University was incorporated in 2004. Following a governance review, the University revised its Articles of Association, incorporating provisions from the Memorandum of Association, which were approved by the Privy Council and adopted by the University on 2 May 2013 and revised on 12 October 2015.
The University is governed by a Board of Directors (Council) whose members are appointed or elected in accordance with the provisions of the Articles of Association. Members of Council are the University’s Trustees as well as its Company Directors.
