Royal College of Surgeons and Royal College of Nursing
The Wellcome Trust Investigator Award project Surgery & Emotion (2016-21), led by Dr Michael Brown, explored the emotional cultures of British surgery from 1800 to the present and has challenged historical and contemporary preconceptions about emotional detachment in surgical practice. Through a sustained series of CPD-accredited trainings around public engagement events discussing the emotional health and experiences of healthcare workers at both the Royal College of Surgeons and Royal College of Nursing, Dr Brown’s research has shaped debates and advocacy about the importance of emotional intelligence and training on surgical teams in England.
U.S. National Parks Service
Professor Michael Cullinane's research into the shifting legacy of Theodore Roosevelt has led to collaborations at four U.S. National Park Service sites related to the former president (Theodore Roosevelt Island, Sagamore Hill National Historic Site, Theodore Roosevelt National Park and Theodore Roosevelt Birthplace National Historic Site), where his research has sparked a process of revival and reinterpretation. His feature-length documentary, Man on the Island, and its b-roll footage has provided new interpretation at the sites, with novel mobile visitor centers –repurposed vans with TVs and iPads—presenting the material and reaching the approximately 900,000 guests who visit the sites annually.
Potsdam University
Dr Marta García Morcillo and Dr Shushma Malik partner with the University of Potsdam on the AHRC- and German Research Foundation-funded project ‘Twisted Transfers’, which examines acts of corruption in Graeco-Roman Antiquity, from the law courts of classical Athens to the ethics of Byzantine diplomacy, drawing out case studies that still strongly influence the formation of discourses in Western societies today. The project has a strong outreach programme, including the animated video ‘Are you corrupt?’, a collaboration between the project team, the AHRC, BBCArts and the film production company Calling the Shots.
Austrian Centre for Digital Humanities
The Austrian Centre for Digital Humanities, at the University of Graz, Austria, partners with the Centre for Hearth Tax Research at Roehampton, led by Dr Andrew Wareham, to run and maintain Hearth Tax Digital, a platform for the publication and dissemination of research and analysis on hearth tax records and other associated documents, giving free access to personal name data as well as analysis of both population and wealth in urban and rural communities in England. The data available on Hearth Tax Digital provides a unique window on society and the social character of England in the late seventeenth century.
