Denisse studied a Masters in Audiovisual Translation and embarked on a translation and localization career after graduation. Studying with the intent of learning more about subtitling, dubbing and video game localization, Denisse gained an internship with Deluxe Media through Roehampton which steered her into the film and tv localization space and subsequently resulted in her hire at the company in their Los Angeles office. Denisse has held roles at Blizzard Entertainment and Netflix, helping develop localization and accessibility solutions and workflows to effectively scale the massive growth of content, while also taking into consideration quality and sustainability.
“I have been in translation/localization for about 15 years, but it was through my MA at Roehampton that I moved into becoming an expert in localization for entertainment. This specialized MA was also one of the reasons Netflix was interested in me as a candidate. My studies at Roehampton had a direct impact on my success. To this day I stay in touch with several lecturers and have collaborated with Pablo Romero-Fresco on initiatives that have challenged and raised the standards on accessibility practices globally.”
“There are a lot of women in the field of translation and localization, but we do not see higher leadership positions being filled by women and that's something that I would like to continue to contribute towards. Let's support and empower the women leaders of our future. I want my voice to be heard to encourage all the women out there to pursue their goals and know that there are seats at the table for you.”
