Marjorie studied teacher training at Southlands College from 1932 to 1934. Her mother had desired her to become a teacher and, according to her own words, there were not many opportunities for girls. During her time at Southlands she was an officer, responsible for the accommodation doors being locked and ensuring the lights were turned off at night, as well as guaranteeing all the supplies the teachers needed were in the classroom for the next day. Marjorie went on to teach after completing her studies and upon retiring she began to publish poetry. In 2017, at 103-years-old, Marjorie received an honorary award from the University of Roehampton.
