Roehampton Dance and CoDa Dance Company are working together as part of Wandsworth Arts Fringe
Senior Lecturer in Dance at the University of Roehampton, Michael Toon, is continuing a long-running collaboration with Roehampton Dance alumna and founder of the CoDa Dance Company, Nikki Watson, to bring digital dance workshops to the local community next week.
On Tuesday 6th July and Wednesday 7th July, CoDa Dance Company will be running digital dance workshops throughout the day at 6 Portswood Place, Roehampton, as part of the Wandsworth Arts Fringe.
The digital dance workshops will give you the chance to use an Xbox Kinect camera, an Oculus Quest VR headset and some clever behind the scenes tech so that your movements can paint the space around you and create unique, beautiful and explosive visuals.
Those in attendance will also be able to attend As The Floor Shifts – which combines live dance, virtual reality, green screen technology and motion capture suits for three short stories of those with neurological disabilities such as multiple sclerosis.
These workshops and events are running as part of the Wandsworth Arts Fringe, which shakes up South West London every year with an eclectic programme of arts and culture.
Michael Toon, Senior Lecturer and Technical Manager in Dance at the University of Roehampton, said:
“It’s a pleasure to continue a long running collaboration with Nikki and CoDa Dance Company to bring digital dance workshops and virtual reality performances to the local community here in Roehampton. It’s a welcome relief that we are transitioning back to in person events, and our workshops will be an incredible experience for those who want to see for themselves how virtual reality and technology can enhance dance performances”
