Alumna Jasmine Dotiwala Wins Educator Award 2023

Jasmine Dotiwala, a University of Roehampton alumna has been awarded the Mary Lou Carrington Award at The Educator Awards 2023. This award is given in recognition to a woman in business who has made a significant contribution to education. Jasmine's exceptional accomplishments in the media industry and her dedication to promoting diversity and inclusion to young people have earned her this recognition.

After graduating from the University of Roehampton with a degree in Dance, Media, and Communications in 1992, Jasmine started her journey in the media industry in an admin role at a small dance company. She eventually became a presenter on the youth culture show The Word on Channel 4 and spent over 13 years at MTV, where she rose to become the Senior Producer/Director of MTV News and later, the head of production at MTV Base and MTV Dance. In 2020, she moved into a role working with the Netflix UK Editorial & Publishing team. 

Jasmine's contribution to education is not limited to her work in the media industry. In 2016 she joined Speakers for Schools, a charity which provides expert speakers, including leading industry professionals and academics, free of charge to state schools and colleges. Through her work with the charity, Jasmine has given talks to many London schools in the state sector, discussing the importance of diversity in media, and encouraging young people to consider careers in the industry. 

Jasmine has long been an advocate for continuous learning, and she believes that signing up for free courses can be a game-changer for students looking to break into various industries. As she notes, companies are always on the lookout for young, fresh talent who are up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies. By staying ahead of the curve, students can position themselves as valuable assets to potential employers by staying ahead of the curve employers. Jasmine's advice is particularly relevant in today's digital age, where the internet has transformed virtually every industry.
