The University of Roehampton, London is thrilled to announce that its BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Sciences and Sports Therapy programmes have been endorsed by the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sports and Physical Activity (CIMSPA). This recognition enhances the credibility of Roehampton’s programmes in the competitive field of Sport and Exercise Science.
CIMSPA brings significant advantages to Roehampton students, through enhancing the quality and employability of our graduates entering the sports industry. Endorsement by CIMSPA means that programmes meet industry standards and equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive in their sport-related careers.
Once students complete the first year of the Sport and Exercise Sciences or Sports Therapy degrees, they receive their gym instructor and personal trainer qualifications and are eligible to register with CIMSPA. Attaining these additional qualifications by their second year of study means our students can work in the industry early in their degree.
Dr Sally Akehurst, Dean of the School of Life and Health Sciences, commented: “This is a significant development in our provision and positions our programmes at the forefront of higher education in Sport and Exercise Science, providing our students with the opportunity to gain industry recognised qualifications whilst studying their degree. Our focus is on maximising the opportunities we can provide our students during their degree to enable them to achieve their potential and build their future career whilst with us at Roehampton.”
The Sport and Exercise Science degree explores the scientific principles behind human movement and performance, covering the core disciplines of biomechanics, physiology, and psychology to ensure a solid grounding in the multidisciplinary field of Sport and Exercise Science. Our practitioners and researchers provide a rich learning experience for students to hone their knowledge and skills learning about topics such as how the body responds to exercise, developing skills in fitness assessment and training, sport injury, nutrition, and performance in extreme environments.
The Sports Therapy degree focuses on preventing, assessing, treating, and rehabilitating sports injuries. Through combining theoretical knowledge in anatomy, physiology, and injury prevention, with practical skills in assessment, manual therapies, and rehabilitation techniques, students build their expertise and therapy skills to become qualified practitioners. This Roehampton degree is accredited by The Society of Sports Therapists, ensuring that the programme meets rigorous industry standards for education and professional practice. Upon graduation students can apply to the SST for personal registration to practice as a Sports Therapist; therefore, enhancing the employability of graduates and setting them off in their professional career.
Dr. Luke Felton, Programme Leader, says: “I am delighted that our Sport and Exercise Sciences and Sports Therapy programmes have received professional endorsement from CIMSPA. This reflects the hard work of the entire programme team in designing programmes that will provide students not only with the required subject knowledge for a career in the sports industry but also the necessary practical skills for applied practice.”
