The University of Roehampton is thrilled to announce that its BA and MA Media and Communications programmes have been awarded accreditation by the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM). This recognition enhances the credibility of Roehampton’s programmes in the competitive field of Media and Communications.

CIM, the only marketing body authorised to award Chartered Marketing status, brings significant advantages to Roehampton students. “The Chartered Institute of Marketing would like to welcome the University of Roehampton’s Media and Communication Programme as one of our newest Accredited Degree Partners. The accreditation provides students with the opportunity to be part of a worldwide community of members and enhances their employability by taking our globally recognised professional qualifications in their initial steps towards Chartered Status,” stated CIM representative Damian Cuke.

Professor Melanie Gray, Dean of the School of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, commented, "It’s a testament to the quality of the programmes, the teaching, and the student opportunities."

To achieve CIM accreditation, a programme must include at least one-third of its content in marketing modules, covering areas such as PR, advertising, digital marketing, social marketing, and international marketing. The assessment criteria include understanding marketing’s role in organisations, customer behaviour, marketing environment factors, and applying the marketing mix across different contexts.

The Media and Communications programme at Roehampton strategically blends media production and data analytics skills to critically engage with the evolving industry. Designed to provide students with a deep understanding of how different media types can drive social and cultural change, the programme prepares them for various industries. It emphasises practical experience, helping students build individual portfolios and become multi-skilled communications professionals ready for the professional world post-graduation.

Dr. Ping Shum, MA programme leader, highlighted the strong camaraderie among students, noting their initiative in creating a WhatsApp group for better communication and social activities. "I’m deeply honoured to be part of the Media and Communications programmes. It was a team effort, with dedicated academic and support staff, and committed students all contributing to making our programmes outstanding," he stated.

For current and prospective students, CIM accreditation brings numerous benefits. “The new CIM accreditation provides students with a head start in employability, proving to future employers that Roehampton students have received rigorous training suited for careers in marketing and beyond,” emphasised Dr. Theo Price, BA programme leader. Employers highly regard CIM qualifications, with many job listings specifying a CIM qualification as a requirement. This accreditation ensures Roehampton graduates are well-prepared for successful careers in marketing and related fields.
