We're thrilled to announce that the University of Roehampton's BA Journalism programme has earned accreditation from the prestigious Professional Publishers Association (PPA). This accreditation highlights our programme's dedication to excellence and its adherence to industry standards.
With nearly two decades of teaching, our BA Journalism programme has continually evolved to meet the dynamic demands of the journalism landscape. From embracing emerging technologies like social media and artificial intelligence to fostering a culture of innovation, we're committed to providing our students with a cutting-edge education.
Accreditation by the PPA is a testament to the quality and relevance of our programme. It places Roehampton among a select group of institutions offering top-tier journalism courses in the UK. This recognition reaffirms our strong ties to the media industry and the professional journalism community. For current and prospective students, PPA accreditation brings numerous benefits. It validates the quality of education offered, enhances career prospects, and ensures that students receive training that aligns with industry standards.
During the accreditation process, the PPA evaluated various criteria to ensure the programme's quality and effectiveness. These included the coverage of essential journalism skills across print, digital, and social media platforms, the track record of graduates in journalism-related roles, and the effectiveness of media law instruction. Additionally, the assessment scrutinised the programme's ability to produce journalists capable of engaging digital audiences and delivering content across multiple formats.
Dr. Sean Tunney, Associate Professor and BA Programme Leader in Journalism at the University of Roehampton, London, expressed delight at the accreditation, stating, "This is great news and a testament to the hard work of colleagues, present and past. It provides confirmation to Roehampton Journalism programme students that they are in safe hands." He added, "Key figures in the industry consider what they are learning is what the profession wants and needs – for now and the future. The PPA, whose members publish titles ranging from Vogue and GQ to The New Yorker and Heat magazine, recognise us as providing a professional-standard programme."
