Become a Specialist Food and Nutrition Teacher with Expert Training and Hands-On Experience
On the Food and Nutrition course, you'll focus on teaching food and nutrition within the curriculum. The course is delivered by expert tutors from Roehampton University and Leiths Education, a renowned culinary institution. You'll use specialist facilities and receive guidance from experienced teachers in carefully selected schools to support your growth as an educator. The course includes four intensive training weeks, covering key aspects of teaching, such as building positive classroom environments, enhancing student learning through talk, and effective feedback and questioning techniques. You will also cover Professional Studies with other students on the course remotely via online sessions.
Most of your training will take place in two local schools in your area and placements will be arranged by Roehampton. Expect to spend at least 120 days on placement, gaining classroom experience under the guidance of trained mentors. The remainder of your training will be delivered online.
Interviews for the course are conducted online. After watching an introductory recording, you'll have a 30-minute interview with a subject tutor, where you can ask questions about the course. You may be asked to present a portfolio, give a presentation, or demonstrate your subject knowledge. Additionally, there will be a written task to assess your writing and critical thinking skills at Master’s level. A teacher from one of the partner schools may also participate in your interview.
Roehampton University offers support for students with disabilities and other needs. There are resources and advice available to help you successfully complete your teacher training.
