We offer a wide range of undergraduate courses with a foundation year, meaning you will enrol on a four-year programme of study.
During the foundation year, you’ll gain the academic and practical experience you need to help you get the most out of your chosen degree and the subject-specific modules will give you a strong introduction of what you’ll learn.
The foundation year takes place at the beginning of a degree and extends your studies by a year.

Undergraduate courses with a foundation year
We offer the following undergraduate courses with a foundation year:
How you'll be taught
You are taught over two semesters in the year; autumn and spring.
You’ll complete six modules in total, all worth 20 credits each. The modules will build your confidence and give you the key skills you need to complete your chosen degree.
The modules include:
- Academic English and study skills – you’ll learn study skills, such as how to structure an essay, to reference and how to use library resources, like journals. All of which will help you to develop your confidence in reading, academic writing and presentation skills
- Subject-area modules – which will be related to the course you are studying
The whole course is taught in a way that can fit around your other commitments.
Once you’ve completed the modules, you’ll be able to move into your first year of your degree.
