Quiet on-campus graduations

Graduation is a pivotal milestone in every student's academic journey. At Roehampton, we recognise that the traditional graduation experience – characterised by large-scale ceremonies in the Royal Festival Hall – can be overwhelming for a small number of students.

Therefore we are delighted to offer an on-campus graduation experience that will enable neurodiverse students, those facing anxiety and others with circumstances that prevent them from attending large-scale events to celebrate their achievements in a supportive, familiar setting.

Our next quiet graduation ceremonies will take place later this year and will be open to those identified as eligible to attend our traditional ceremonies taking place on 16 and 17 September at the Royal Festival Hall.

The event will mirror key elements of the traditional ceremony – such as hiring academic gowns, purchasing formal photography packages and crossing a small stage to have your name read aloud – but will be designed to be smaller, less formal, and more accommodating.

If you would like to transfer your graduation to the quieter experience, please complete the form below and a member of our team will reach out to you to discuss.

Please Note: Attending the on-campus quiet graduation does not exclude you from attending the ceremonies held at Royal Festival Hall. If you wish to attend both, please discuss with the Graduation Team.

You will be required to pay the gown hire fee twice if you choose to attend both.

What to expect on the day

We suggest arriving about 45 minutes before the ceremony start time so that you can familiarise yourself with the space at your own pace. However the venue will be open roughly two hours before the event if you wish to arrive earlier.

When you arrive, you’ll check in with our team and be directed to gowning (if applicable), which will be in a nearby room on the same floor.

We ask everyone to be in the ceremony room, Portrait Room, 15 minutes before the advertised start time.

The ceremony will begin with a short opening speech by the Presiding Officer, followed by the reading of names and a closing remark from an alumni.

When your name is called, you can choose to:

  • Stay seated
  • Stand, and if you wish nod your head
  • Come to the front of the room to shake hands with the Presiding Officer

Professional photography will be available in nearby rooms on the same floor. You can have your photo taken before or after the ceremony. You can prebook your photography or arrange payment with the team on the day.

After your ceremony, you can enjoy a celebratory drink in the Terrace Room with your guests and peers and take photos on the University grounds.

Please return your gown back to where you collected it from.
