Dr Shivadas Sivasubramaniam, Deputy Dean of the School of Life and Health Sciences at the University of Roehampton, has been awarded the 2025 Tracey Bretag Prize for Academic Integrity (UK-Europe category).
The award recognises his national/international leadership in advancing ethical academic practice through the project named “UK-Biomedical Science Academic Working Group on Integrity and Ethical Engagement with GenAI.”
The Tracey Bretag Prize honours innovative and effective academic integrity initiatives that promote student learning, shape institutional culture, and reflect the late Professor Bretag’s vision of higher education grounded in ethics and humanity.
Now in its fifth year, the award receives entries from across the UK and Europe, North America, the Middle East, and Asia-Oceania.
Reflecting on the recognition, Dr Sivasubramaniam said, “It’s a real privilege to receive this award, especially honouring Tracy with whom I had a privilege to work closely until her untimely demise. Academic integrity is fundamental to what we do as educators, and this project has been about building a community of practice to help students and staff navigate emerging challenges such as generative AI.”
The award highlights the growing importance of collaborative, values-driven work in higher education, particularly at a time of rapid technological change.
Shiva’s project demonstrated measurable impact and innovation, marking a significant step forward in the sector’s response to the ethical implications of GenAI
