Roehampton leads UKAIS 2026 track on digital accountability and sustainability

University of Roehampton School of Business and Law is leading an important academic initiative as Dr Claire Li, Senior Lecturer in Accounting & Finance, has been confirmed as the Lead Track Chair for the upcoming UK Academy for Information Systems (UKAIS) Annual Conference 2026, themed "Make The World A Better Place: The Future of Intelligent Technology.”

Hosted in collaboration with Dr Stavros Polykarpou (Royal Holloway, University of London), Dr Li will curate the track titled: Digital Accountability, Sustainability and Innovation.

This thematic track invites full and developmental papers from researchers exploring how digital technologies – such as AI, blockchain, data analytics and cloud platforms – are reshaping accountability, transparency, and governance across public and private sectors. It aims to spark interdisciplinary dialogue at the intersection of accounting, digital systems, sustainability, and public value.

“This timely track connects deeply with my current research on public sector accounting/management, decision making process design, and cross-sector accountability on responsible digital technology,” said Dr Li.

“It also marks a key milestone in building a cross-sector platform on digital accountability and public governance as a structural challenge.”

Dr Li’s leadership reflects Roehampton’s Strategy 2030, which places strong emphasis on inclusive growth, community engagement, and environmental sustainability. Her work directly supports this vision by delivering public service solutions grounded in academic research and fostering collaboration between academics, policymakers, and industry professionals.

The track aligns with Roehampton’s commitment to interdisciplinary, societally relevant research and engaging stakeholders in research collaborations.

It also contributes to the university’s preparations for REF 2029, focusing on impact, real-world outcomes, and the “People, Culture and Environment” dimension. Dr Li’s work, including policy briefings, public engagement, and research-driven platforms, forms a strong foundation for future impact case studies.

This initiative supports the university’s EDI Strategic Plan by engaging scholars at all career stages and bringing underrepresented voices (e.g., charities, community sectors) into academic debates.
