The University of Roehampton’s Dr Ayse Demir, Senior Lecturer in Economics and Finance and member of our Centre for Sustainability and Responsible Management, participated in COP30 as a delegate for Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Natural Resources of The Gambia.

COP30 is the United Nations Climate Change Conference, which this year, took place in Belém, Brazil from 10 - 21 November 2025. The conference takes place every year and brings together world leaders and negotiators from across the world to agree on actions to address climate change.

Dr Demir represented Roehampton on an international stage, contributing her expertise on:

  • Inclusive and gender-responsive clean energy transitions
  • Women-led adoption of sustainable technologies
  • Community-centred approaches to achieving the sustainable development goals
  • Evidence-based pathways for just energy transitions in Sub-Saharan Africa

Her participation helped strengthen links between research, international policy, and community impact, and reflected Roehampton’s commitment to global engagements, sustainability leadership, and impactful research that informs practice and shapes decision-making.

We’d like to congratulate Dr Demir on her contribution to COP30 and for advancing The University of Roehampton’s role in global climate and energy transition efforts.
